We purchased this Mahogany Antique Buffet last week and it was in dire need of some R&R.
Rather than do the trending wood top and dark base, we opted for a monochromatic grey palette for a Gustavian look. Gustavian style furniture is typically painted a soft, muted grey or white washed with hints of gilding. It’s a Swedish Country style look that is popular in modern decor and can really work in most aesthetics.
For the base, we painted two thick coats of Dried Lavender Milk Paint, allowed it to chip as Milk Paint does, then sealed it with White Wax by Annie Sloan. I then dry brushed some Pure White over the hardware and high points for some added visual interest.
We love how it turned out – farmhouse and chippy and perfectly weathered as it should be.
